The painting of Philippe Lagrange, by certain aspects, (problem of the illusion, the trompe-l'oeil, the canvas, the frame, the spoken and pictorial language) could be qualified as conceptual and not as critical or narrative Figuration, as many might think. I prefer not to give it a label, because I know that this painting is rooted in sensation, affectivity and the irrational. I will almost speak of inspired painting... then come questioning and cerebrality.
